Funnywinks Visits Children’s Hospital, with Gifts from Banana

Funnywinks the clown, friend to Banana Design, visits children not only on their birthdays, but when the get sick too. We helped sponsor her last visit to a children’s hospital with a big Santa bag of our soothing and nightlight toys. Here is a sampling of her visit.

The ChuChi plushie night light is the newest addition to our household and already a favorite around here. Banana Design Lab created this creature to be a cuddly, soft nighttime companion for little ones to give them the confidence to sleep on their own. ChuChi has a glowing yellow light in his head and a soft red beating heart light in his chest. You just press on his hand to alternate between the two lights. They are very soft, ambient lights. Not enough to keep your toddler or child from getting drowsy like some night lights I have tried. And unlike night lights that plug in to an outlet, ChuChi is portable and can be carried from room to room with your child.

Even the box is well designed. It’s perfect for gifting. The front of the box is actually a flap that has velcro so that you can open it to see the ChuChi and his story. Grace calls the box his house and she loves to put him back in there and open and shut the door. The story that is written on the box is so cute. It describes where ChuChi is from and how he keeps monsters away. Grace loves that her “Choo-Choo” scares away monsters for her.

The ChuChi itself is just such a great product. I can’t tell you how much we love him! He is super soft. Grace has tons of plushies and ChuChi is one of the very softest. He is also very squishable. Not hard, cold plastic like some other night light creatures. The soft light he gives off is enough to make her feel safe and secure in the middle of the night, but not enough to make her feel wide awake. Since “Choo-Choo” arrived, my husband and I have had much less frequent wake up calls from our little girl. She looks for him as soon as she gets into bed, turns on his light and hugs him. Sometimes I will hear her wake at night, but now she goes back to sleep instead of waking me up. When I go to check on her I can see ChuChi’s light glowing from under her covers.

I think that ChuChi will be sticking around for years. Children of all ages can appreciate and love him. I’m so excited to have found such a great toy and I hope it will help other parents out there get a better night’s sleep as well!

Our fearless leader Yury G. was in geek seventh heaven when meeting Massimo Banzi in person. Seen below.

Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino, stopped by Banana’s booth at Maker Faire. Actually we pulled him into our booth and proceeded to gush at him about how awesome Arduino is. Arduino is “of course” the very innovative open hardware platform that’s appears to be sweeping the world. But while we were gushing at him, he was gracious enough to pose for a photo with Yury, and of course with two My Little Beating hearts. This with one of Banana’s proudest “celebrity” placements to date.
